Silica For The Competent Person Training – 4 Hour
Exposure to respirable crystalline silica can cause silicosis, lung cancer, other respiratory diseases
and kidney disease. About two million construction workers are exposed in over 600,000 workplaces. OSHA estimates more than 840,000 workers are exposed to silica levels that exceed the new permissible exposure limit. Workers and contractors need to recognize the hazard, understand the risk factors and work safety with silica. As of September 23, 2017, OSHA now requires construction companies to adequately protect employees from respirable crystalline silica exposure and assure complete compliance and implement a written silica plan. This regulation, 29 CFR 1926.1153, is enforceable immediately and each company must document compliance with this rule. The rule mandates all construction employers covered by the standard to have a written exposure control plan and designate a competent person. Each construction company will need to appoint a competently trained person or team to oversee the company’s compliance program. The Silica Competent Person Training class will allow attendees to act as the company’s designated competent person as required by OSHA’s new silica standard. This Competent Person will complete an exposure assessment for tasks that may present an occupational exposure to silica dust and follow a set of protective engineering and administrative methods to reduce risk. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an certificate of completion. Who Should Attend? Safety and Project Managers, Management Staff, Supervisors, Lead Persons, and Employees involved with safety operations or silica operations.
This class will be taught in English only.
